The Big Blue Umbrella

About Us

Mission

The Big Blue Umbrella NonProfit is on a mission to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness secure housing, employment and supportive wrap-around services with the help of compassionate certified homelessness advocates.

Vision

We envision a society where every individual has an opportunity to lead a dignified, self-sufficient life that includes a place to call home.

We strive to be a beacon of hope, support and advocacy, addressing the root causes of homelessness through innovative programs and strategic initiatives.

In pursuing our vision, we inspire others to join us in empowering individuals and families with the resources and support they need to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency–ultimately creating a world where homelessness is a thing of the past.

Our Programs

Certified Homelessness Advocate (CHA)

The Homeless Advocate Certification Board (HACB), established by The Big Blue Umbrella, is the first of its kind, dedicated to standardizing and improving the quality of services provided by homelessness outreach teams. Our certification ensures that advocates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ethics to effectively assist those experiencing homelessness.

The primary role of a CHA Outreach Specialist is to:

  • Provide direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness by offering verified resources to help them access supportive, wrap-around services in person in real-time.

Certified Recycling Advocate (CRA)

TheBBU is training a corps of Certified Recycling Advocates (CRAs) who are passionate about the future of our environment and making recycling a more accessible, seamless and rewarding experience. Trained and certified by the Recycling Advocate Certification Board (RACB), with innovative technology and a strong network of Certified Recycling Advocates (CRAs) helping California communities reduce waste and conserve resources while supporting schools and community-based organizations along the way.

Certified Recycling Advocates:

  • Assist in community education programs focused on recycling awareness.
  • Support and participate in local recycling events and initiatives.
  • Conduct basic waste audits to promote household recycling efforts.
  • Provide general recycling information to the public.
